Magic acts at the Howard County Fair
While many brothers will let their summer dwindle away in front of televisions, mindlessly mowing lawns, or perhaps traditional sibling rivalry, a pair of Monrovia brothers are hard at work.
Peter and Matthew Wood … will be doing magic and comedy at the Howard County Fair for the third year in a row. Peter began his magic business, Shazam Magic, in 1994 and has been doing professional birthday parties, corporate events, and business magic shows ever since. While Matt occasionally helps him with regular gigs, he is a staple at the annual Fair.
"I have a lot of fun because my character doesn't speak, so Ihave to mime everything,” 12-year-old Matt explained.
Peter, 18, jokes, “The first year we were here, we only had one microphone, so it wasn't possible for Matt to be heard. But it was so funny, we've kept it going, and it's become a real tradition here at the fair.”
This year, with plenty of new tricks up their sleeves, the brothers will work the fair crowd August 3-10 every day. Highlights include a smoking toaster card trick, magic wand class, and plenty of audience participation. As the grand finale, Peter and Matt, with the help of one lucky assistant, make a huge realistic snow storm that snows over the audience.
